2008 Special Events
From 15km races, backpacking trips, bicycle excursions, to rock climbing workshops, Fall Creek Falls State Park offers activities for the whole family throughout the year. No matter where your interest lies, Fall Creek has something for you.

Fall Creek Falls State Resort Park, situated on the Western Edge of the Cumberland Plateau, contains over 25,000 acres of rugged beauty. Inside the park are both first class recreational facilities and, untrammeled pristine wilderness. Resource management staff is available year round to assist park visitors. Fifty miles of trails, including twenty-five miles of backpacking trails, and twenty miles of biking trails, lead the visitor away from the roads and into the wilderness at Fall Creek. Star Party 2008
Programs are entry level to professional level. Professional and amateur astronomers will be giving presentations. Dark sky field viewing will be Friday and Saturday night with alternate "bad weather" programs. There will be no program fees. Your only cost for the event will be lodging and food. Memorial Day through Labor Day
Summer Season at Fall Creek Fall
Softball, nature hikes, cave trips, canoe floats, campfires, horseback riding, and good bluegrass music are just some of the weekly events that mark our summer season. Interpretive and recreational events are scheduled seven days a week.


June 6th & 7th, July 4th & 5th, August 1st & 2nd
Astronomy in the Parks
Join us at the Inn for discussions regarding constellations, lunar lore, and our brightest star, the Sun. Telescope viewing will also be offered, weather permitting. For more information, email Lloyd Watkins at watkinslk@comcast.net

Rock Climbing Workshops
First comes instruction in basic knots, harnesses, and techniques, and then we meet some of the milder bluffs and boulders of the park. There is a fee for this event. For more information, email Ray.Cutcher@state.tn.us pre-register, or call the park office at (423) 881-3297.

July 4th
Fourth of July Celebration
Dress up your car, your bike, or yourself, for the “traditional” parade. Then, after watermelon and cake, we will move onto the field for events such as sack races, the egg toss, the water balloon toss, and other family favorites.

August 17th
Triathlon
Push your limits in a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride, followed by a 10km run. For more information, contact Martin Coleman at (865) 250-3618, or register at www.racedayevents.net.



September 5th, 6th, & 7th
30th Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival
Handmade crafts, traditional mountain music, and demonstrations of pioneer skills are just part of the fun. Country cooking, bluegrass music, and different exhibits round out the jam-packed schedule.




October 18th & 19th
Fall Colors Weekend
Join us on bicycle tours, guided hikes, and slide shows focusing on the autumn splendor of Fall Creek Falls.

October 25th
Wild Foods Day
Field trips identifying edible wild plants and workshops on preparing wild meats and breads are just part of the activities. The real treat comes in enjoying the wild feast.
October 18th & 19th















November 8th & 9th
Backpacking Trip
Join us for a 13-mile trek through some of the more remote portions of the park. This hike is for both novices and experienced backpackers and includes a 2-day guided hike with an overnight camp. There is a $10 fee and pre-registration is required. Contact the Nature Center at (423) 881-5708.



December 5th, 6th, & 7th
Christmas on the Mountain
A weekend of Yuletide fun and food, Christmas Carols, and gifts for the little ones. Activities for children and adults alike include traditional Christmas decorating, tea parties, and a three-day mountain craft show. Don't be surprised if Saint Nick drops in.
